Nokuthula Mndaweni – Ubenami is now on Radio
Hailing from Lamontville Township in KZN, South Africa, Nokuthula was born on the 28th of August, 1973. Inspired by gospel singers like Bishop Benjamin Dube, Ntokozo Mbambo, Cece Winans, and Yolanda Adams, Nokuthula’s talent was recognized at an early age of 14 by her school choir master. She went on to become the lead singer for several groups around Lamontville, including collaborations with the late Wendy Mseleku.
Nokuthula’s determination to keep singing continued, eventually leading her to set up her own group called MGG (Methodist Gospel Group). She merges her angelic and soulful voice into sweet modern and traditional gospel music to uplift spirits.
On the 7th of January, 2022, she released her first official single, ‘Ulihlathi Leth’uThixo’ (Our God is our refuge), a song that encourages hope and trust in God. Her second single titled “Qinani” (Be Strong) was released on the 24th of March 2023. The song is about embracing God’s power and accepting God’s presence in all we do. Her music, with uplifting soulful harmonies to contemporary beats, aims to lead listeners to Christ.
She participated in the 2023 Kwande Fest “Rising Star Competition” powered by Old Mutual in partnership with KUMISA and won second place. Nokuthula also entered the 2011 national gospel competition ‘SHINE’ organized by One Gospel, finishing fourth overall.
